We had a humorous life illustration happen to us today at church. We found evidence that our children really do listen, sometimes closer than we think.
Background:
Annie has recently been very good about apologizing. However, it is often that she misbehaves and then immediately after she is caught she will begin saying "I'm sorry" with apparent sincerity. It has become our habit to emphasize that sometimes "sorry just doesn't cut it." Our intent is that she think before she acts and is not under the impression that anything goes as long as you are willing to apologize.
Illustration:
Today at church, Annie was playing before the service with a young boy named Stone. I don't know exactly what was going on, but in the process Annie's finger got slightly mashed in a door. As the story is recounted to me, Annie says that Stone apologized immediately and admits it was an accident. However, at the time, it did not prevent Annie from coming to her mother in tears seeking sympathy and saying, "Stone said he was sorry, but sorry doesn't cut it."
It was at this point that we had to explain that sometimes, "sorry does cut it."

A new Photo frame
Tonight our small group from church is coming over to bring us dinner and to fellowship. I have just a few minutes in which I need to hang the new photo frame that Rachel has put together. Since most of you won't be here tonight or any time soon, I thought I would post a slideshow of some of the photos she used. Enjoy.
Josie and Layla
Duane, Nicole, Logan, and Layla came over last Friday for pizza and pictures. Layla is Josie's cousin and was born 1 week before her (October 19).

Enjoy the more pics in this album.

Origin of Josephine
I believe that a few people were surprised by our choice of name for the latest edition. As with our other two children, we had opted for not knowing the gender prior to birth, we like surprises. For months we had agreed on potential names. If it was a boy, we were going to him "Micah Thomas," and if it was a girl, "Abigail Grace."
As the months passed, Rachel began to have hesitations (to the point of veto) on the name Abigail. It was not for love of the name, but an aversion to the commonality of the name. The last thing we wanted was for our daughter to be in a class with 3 other Abbies (or Abbys). After a stop over at Baby Name Wizard, we realized that Abigail was the 6th most popular girl name last year (2006).
With our son, Josiah, we reached into the annuls of family history for his middle name (that is another story and post altogether). Arthur was my brother's name, and also that of my uncle. Although I had not given up on Abigail, I suggested we consider family names if we had a girl. Off-handedly, I suggested the name Josephine. Rachel grabbed it and wouldn't let go, with the stipulation of calling her Josie.
Josephine is Rachel's grandmother's name, but she goes by Jo. Jo, incidentally, is then Rachel's mother's middle name. Another trip over to Baby Name Wizard revealed that Josephine came in at 221 for 2006, and Josie at 291. Needless to say, there probably won't be many more Josies (or Josephines) that our daughter will meet along the way. Ironically, Josephine used to be a much more popular name (49:1890s, 37:1900s, 23:1910s, 33:1920s).
Josephine is the feminine form of Joseph and shares in its meaning: "God will increase." We certainly thank God for this increase in our lives, His increase of Grace. God has been good to give us Josie Mabry, may we be wise stewards of her life while it is entrusted to us. May she grow to be worthy of her name.

Color Scheme
The tide has turned again. At this point in time you will notice that the color scheme for this blog is blatantly pink. This is clearly in honor of Josie. However, it also represents the dominance of the Mabry home. With the addition of Josie, Josiah and I move to the minority. This is nothing new for me, when Annie arrived I was in this position; but Josiah came along to even the score. At this point, I am defeated. Josie is our 3rd and final child (the Omega child). The girls will continue to out-number the boys 3-2. There may be that slight reprieve some 13+ years from now when Annie might leave for college when I might gain a foothold again.
The good news is that at this point, I'm the only one that knows how to change the color scheme of this blog. Granted, Annie will probably be doing HTML editing before I know it. We'll stick to the pink for a while, but I don't see keeping this indefinitely.

The First Post
Our family has grown. Last week we had the joyful addition of Josephine Grace (aka Josie). We have determined that we need to become more proactive in communicating our life with friends and family. Therefore, I have created this new blog.
I pray this will become a successful endeavor and become a regular stop for many of our loved ones. Please use the option of the RSS feed so that you won't need to return here to see if we've posted anything new.
Thanks.
